SHIRLEY MONTAGUE TO RECEIVE LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AT NL FOLK FESTIVAL

Shirley Montague is being honoured with a lifetime achievement award at this year’s Newfoundland and Labrador Folk Festival. Montague’s musical career began 50 years ago in her home town of North West River in Labrador. In the intervening years she has become a fixture in the Newfoundland and Labrador folk scene, and is particularly known for celebrating Labrador culture and history through her songs.

This is not the first accolade Montague has received for her musical accomplishments, nor is it even the first she has received this year! Montague was awarded an Honourary Doctor of Laws Degree from Sir Wilfred Grenfell College earlier this year as a testament to her efforts to create and sustain Labrador cultural heritage over the course of her long and storied career.

Congratulations Shirley on your most recent successes!
