Now it’s up to you to help decide who makes it into the top 10 finalists, which will be announced on Thursday, Feb. 28. Three artists will be determined by votes, while the other seven will be chosen by CBC Music staff judges. Once the top 10 is announced, a panel of celebrity judges will take over to determine a winner of Searchlight 2019, which will be announced on Thursday, March 7.
Newfoundland and Labrador artist Sherman Downey won the Searchlight Competition in 2013. The top 100 finalists for 2019 include the winner of the 2018 Newfound Talent Contest, Folk Fest Edition, Rachel Cousins.

The winner of Searchlight, will have a spot in Canada’s premier talent development program — the Allan Slaight Juno Master Class — for a week in Toronto. Then it’s off to the 2020 Juno Awards to perform at JunoFest and take in all the Juno festivities, including the awards show.The winner will also spend a week in Calgary at the National Music Centre’s Studio Bell, and be given access to more than 300 musical instruments, a recording studio and a recording engineer to create their next album.
