Folk \ Celtic \ Classical / Art Music
Mike Sixonate has been an active musician in Newfoundland since 2004. He took his music on the road in 2008 and has played many shows across Canada. Drawing influence from many Canadian artists like NQ Arbuckle, Magnificent 7’s, Stan Rogers, to name just a few. Mike has an energetic stage presence that infects his audience with the urge to get up and kick their heels.
Mikes background in the St. John’s music scene started back in 2007 with Gene Browne and Mike Gear at the long since gone venue “Turners Tavern.” It was at Turners that Mike really knew what he wanted to do in the local music scene and with the help of many musicians and artists he worked towards honing his sound and evolving into the musician he has become. Mike has booked shows for artists from venues as small as coffee shops to as big as The Holy Heart Auditorium.
with an eclectic mix of folk, country, alternative, classical, and Celtic punk; His signature sound comes from his Nylon string guitars and percussive strumming style. He does not use any effects pedals and his voice is unique to the music that he writes.
Depending on the venue you see him at you may get a high energy show with stage props and shots of whiskey or you may get an intimate sit down show with ballads and a glass of wine.
Mike is the frontman for the band “Nelson’s Folly” A pirate based band that has shared the stage with acts such as Green and Gold, Colleen Power, and The Navigators. For the most part you will catch him playing solo as his band mates are very active in the music community with other projects.
When Mike isn’t Performing he is booking shows for himself and other artists across the island, designing posters and promo, and recording demos for musicians who want to get something out without breaking the bank!
Mike also books for venues from St. John’s – Central
