Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council

The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council is a non-profit organization created to foster the arts of the province through financial assistance programs, and by working with government and the community for development of the arts.

There are five basis support programs:

Project Grants
Sustaining Grants
Professional Artists' Travel Grants
NewTel-Arts Council Cultural Innovation Fund
ArtsSmarts Initiative

Assistance may take the form of sponsorships, commissions, and awards.

Eligible applicants are individuals, groups, and organizations whose principal activity is in the production, promotion, or development of theatre, music, dance, film, writing, or visual arts.

All of the Arts Council's Grants are reviewed by Peer Evaluator Committees whose assessments are based on the following criteria:

originality
growth potential within the community and for the artists
permanence as a lasting benefit to the artist and/or the artistic community
access to the community
ability of the applicant to carry out the project
feasibility of the project to be successfully completed

With the exception of Travel Grants, all Grant Applications must be submitted on the official application form available from the Arts Council office. Grants must be applied for in advance of the start date of the project. Please note that to be eligible for assistance, projects must not commence prior to the project start date noted for each competition deadline. Retroactive applications cannot be considered. Only one application per group or individual will be considered per grant session.
