Celebrated Devon musicians Paul Wilson and Marilyn Tucker are back in the province to perform at two events in the area this coming weekend. No strangers to Newfoundland audiences, Wilson and Tucker have spent much of their 40 year career as folk musicians exploring the connections between Newfoundland and England’s West Country counties of Devon, Dorset and Somerset, and worked with a variety of local musicians, both here and in the UK, as part of that process.
Founders of Wren Music, a folk based community music organization, last year they were awarded the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Gold Badge for their contributions to English folk music, the highest honor awarded by the organization.
Wilson and Tucker will join Newfoundland musicians Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne for two shows this coming weekend. The first is a concert entitled Shore to Shore on Saturday, 09 Sept. at 8 PM at St. George’s Heritage Church in Brigus. The program was initially developed for the Devon-Newfoundland symposium which took place earlier this year in Exeter, Devon, and features a wide variety of music and song that illustrate the cultural links between Newfoundland and the West Country.
